Electric Grass Trimmer: Great Trimmer

If you’re in the market for a basic, entry-level electric grass trimmer to handle light trimming work around your house, the Black and Decker 9-inch grass trimmer might be worth considering. While certainly not as powerful or feature-laden as more costly models, this trimmer can handle much of the light-duty work many homeowners need. The trimmer weighs just 3.2 pounds and requires little assembly with just 2 steps. It operates off a reliable, 1.8-amp HP motor, which spins the line at 11,000 rpm. This grass trimmer features a basic bump feed line system, a generous nine-inch cutting path, and a secondary assist handle for added comfort and control. It comes with 20 feet of .065-diameter line, and spool replacement is fairly simple. One thing I found especially handy with this particular trimmer was its unique cord lock system, which holds the extension cord firmly in place while the trimmer is in use. As someone who has accidentally unplugged a electric grass trimmer halfway through a job on more than one occasion, this indeed a handy feature to have.

I was a bit disappointed with the fact that because I was using such a large vessel (a bit wider than the unit itself) much of the escaping heat burned a lot of the black paint on the unit and emmited a not too pleasant smell for some time. I guess this is inevitable, and they probably just paint them for astetic reasons, but this is a hot flame! I also bought an extra burner (model BG10) for about $10 and a 20psi regulator kit, so if you had an extra stand or could improvise, that would be another way to go to get the same quality heat.

Hickory Wood Chips: Grilling Flavor

My Dad doesn’t have an official smoker – he has a hellified gas grill with every attachment and option known to man. And he’s good on a grill. What he didn’t have was any way to smoke anything. So for fathers day we bought him some little box with a handle called a "smoker box," various bags of flavored wood chips, and a rib rack. Maybe it was due to the chips, maybe the rib rack or maybe it was my Dad’s skill on the grill – but he DID create the best ribs he’s ever made after we gave him his gifts. I know very little about smoking – but I do know that as we were all sitting outside chatting, I could smell the hickory wood chips in the smoker box… and I’d consider buying some just to chuck in the fireplace to get that fantastic smell. My sister and I DID shop around a bit, and we discovered that Amazon actually did have better prices (as of Fathers Day of 2009) on the hickory wood chips then any of our local retailers.

Playskool Step Start Walk N Ride: Learning To Walk

Our daughter received this Playskool Step Start Walk N Ride as a gift for Christmas when she was 8 months old. It is still her favorite 2 months later! She is starting to walk on her own and this toy has been a great help to her. She doesn’t care for the car part of the toy, but the walker has been great. In reading the other reviews, I see that there have been some complaints about the attachments or design. So far, our child has not been injured or pulled anything off of this toy. It has been pretty durable. She does tip the Playskool Step Start Walk N Rideover on occasion, though. An unbalanced child can easily tip this, but it does not seem heavy enough to cause an injury and Veronica has always just gotten up and kept right on going. It is small enough to take along in our trunk and we take it with us when visiting. I think this is a great learning-to-walk toy.

Hot Wheels Race Track: Fun Race Track

This Hot Wheels Race Track has been played with ALOT since getting it. Both my three year old and 5 year old (and 40 year old) love it. They need help when the ramp comes apart if stepped on or played with roughly, but eventually they will be able to do it themselves. Unlike a million other car tracks on the market this one does not involve time for assembly nor time for looking for all the parts. In that sense it makes life so much easier for the parents! There are only 4 pieces. They click together easily. And they store neatly as one piece. I bought it for our 2 year old and he loves it. He loves to guess which car will win and understands the lanes and the numbers. His older cousins have as much fun with it as he does. The one drawback of the Hot Wheels Race Track is the stability of the support for the higher car track. It should be a little stronger. Overall, great fun, great value for money, and a great gift idea for any kid.

If you are looking for a child size ride-on wagon for your toddler, one that (s)he could sit in, pull around and play with inside or outside, then this is not the one for you – you’ll need a slightly bigger wagon. I purchased the Radio Flyer ‘My First Wagon’ (Model #7) which measures 20.5" long x 10.5" wide which is larger than this Radio Flyer Little Red Wagon and smaller than the Radio Flyer Ultimate Family Wagon that we have – each has a purpose. If you only want to purchase one wagon and are looking for a ride-on wagon then Radio Flyer has many options for wagons at various price points, sizes, and options to meet your needs.

Designed in Switzerland, this toy has won countless awards for design and play value. Its simplicity is deceptive and modeled after extensive study of children’s play patterns. Let your imagination run wild! Nearly indestructible; suitable for indoors and outdoors. My children, ages 4.5 and 2.5 each got two of these for Christmas. They are a big hit. I’m very impressed with the Bilibo construction, which is of a thick plastic, I can flip it over and stand on top myself and it only flexes slightly on our slippery kitchen floor. They are a good size – an adult of medium build could sit in one. My kids can get in and cross their legs inside too. The shape is great – two of them fit together to form a kind of spherical shape. The two holes are inspired as they love putting them on their heads and looking through the holes. They have found a ton of uses so far! They spin the bilibo and put a marble in and watch it go around. They spin around in them themselves. They have used it as the center in their block building expeditions, as a seat and to port toys around the house.

Braun Clean And Renew:

You don’t HAVE to use the cleaning function of the Braun Clean And Renew. You can use it like any other shaver and clean it with a brush. But if you don’t mind paying ~$60/year on these Braun Clean And Renew, then the cleaning system works great. I hope eventually someone decides to make generic versions of the refills or sells the fluid only so we can refill them (like they do with inkjet printer cartridges). I would NOT take the advice of the guy who recommended using alcohol and lemon juice as a refilling liquid. Lemon has sugar (and other impurities) in it, and alcohol doesn’t have lubricating agents and may strip the lubricating that the blades need. Cleaning every other day may seem like a money-saving idea, but I have found that even if you don’t use it for weeks, the cleaning fluid still evaporates and you have to replace it almost as frequently, so I figure I might as well get the benefit of cleaning rather than let the stuff just evaporate away. I hope Amazon starts selling these things directly since buying it from J&R is not a good deal because of the shipping charges.

Intex Filter Cartridge: Pool Cleaning

We love our intex pool and while they tell you its fine to rinse and reuse the filter for a time or two…I do not recommend that. They never really get clean and work like brand new. For the price on Amazon and the fast shipping buy enough and never have to worry for the summer. I change mine weekly to maintaina sparkly pool its easy, they came packaged great and If I knew this easy to put up pool (I did get the pool very cheap at walmart though… easy as a snap to do..you just need two people)I would have bought one years ago. Fits well, installs easily, etc… A great product. however, Intex Filter Cartridge do NOT need to be replaced every week!! A standard Intex Filter Cartridge can last for 6 months, or more if maintined properly. Usually, when servicing a filter, you can take a nozzle on your hose, and thoroughly hose off the filter pleats (all of them!), and reuse the cartridge. If it’s a little grody, use a bit of chlorine bleach to clean it up.

I was mistaken about how this works, I thought that it went through the phases along with the moon, however, it blinks through them pretty quick. 2. The Uncle Milton Moon In My Room is just set on a single phase of the moon. I have seen them go through both of the settings, there is a small remote control that the child can set themselves. The only problem with the remote is that because of its size it can get easily misplaced, especially if your kids are like mine and would lose just about anything.

I purchased the LeapFrog Scribble and Write for my son’s 4th birthday. He already knew how to write his letters so this toy provides a fun and easy way for him to practice them. The toy also encourages the kids to draw pictures and he has fun following along with the verbal instructions. After playing with the toy for a few days, I also noticed that he was freestyle drawing pictures on regular paper (trying to copy the Scribble and Write) so it was nice to see that the toy seemed to be encouraging his artistic imagination and some drawing creativity. It is certainly not a miracle toy to teach kids letters by any means, but for kids already interested in the alphabet this is a great way to reinforce LeapFrog Scribble and Write learning letters.

Ultra Stomp Rocket: Kids Love It

Both the Ultra and the Junior Stomp Rocket kits come with a plastic rectangular "stomp pad" connected to a flexible tube. The Ultra Stomp Rocket missiles are larger in size and shape. They have a plastic shaft with small plastic fins on the bottom and a large foam head. The junior stomp rocket missiles are smaller and made entirely of foam. Other than that, the launching equipment for both are exactly the same. Refill Rockets for both the Junior and Ultra models come in varying colors.

Syma Helicopter: Indoor Flying

Really fantastic toy for the price. I have had some of those mini RC helicopters before, and honestly for twice the price of one of those this heli is well worth the price. The Syma Helicopter steering takes a little getting used to, think of it as a hover craft rather than a car on wheels. You get the hang of it in no time, and a charge seems to last a good 10-15 minutes. Plus, and this is a huge plus, there are no batteries to replace accept in the controller. he helicopter itself charges from a wall outlet. The craft is a pretty good size, around 16" long I would guess. The lights on the craft are awesome, it has 2 on either engine in the back, and a red and green one underneath it. I have been buzzing this thing around my house ever since Christmas, it is to much fun. The only thing I would say to perspective buyers is the steering is not dead on precise but it is tons better than the cheap RC copters out there, and is very easy to use.

Intex Swimming Pools: Summer Fun

Weber Rolling Cart: Grilling Travel

I received this as a Christmas gift 4 years ago with my Q220 grill. I use it as my grilling stand on the back deck. It isn’t as sturdy as I’d like as the grill moves a little when brushing the grilling surface with a brush. The grill is "attached" to the stand with some "hooks" that catch the rear legs of the grill. Then the Weber Rolling Cart front legs set into some "pockets" on the top of the stand. If you need to move the grill, be sure to grab the stand and not one of the grill handles as you may lift the grill out of the pockets and it may slip out of the hooks and fall off the stand. The hooks and small tool storage area are nice and handy. I have a grill brush that hangs from one of the hooks all the time. I’ve used the stand while camping and it works well as long as you have level ground. Uneven or bumpy ground is difficult to use with this stand. It is very portable however, and the grill can be placed on the top in the Weber Rolling Cart folded position to use the stand as a two-wheeled dolly to transport the grill when tailgating. If I had my choice, I’d have selected the more permanent model grill stand for my Q220 as most of my grilling takes place on the back deck. If I were using it camping or tailgating, this is the perfect companion to the Q grill.

Barbecue Mitt: Keep Grilling

I bought this barbecue mitt because it was reasonably priced and made by Weber. Being a Weber fanatic, I had high hopes. But after trying to use it for the first time last night, I’m pretty disappointed. The mitt is very thick and heavy, which is great for protecting your hand from the heat. But it’s so thick and heavy that gripping things with it is tough. 1. Mitt fits comfortably all the way to your elbow (unless you’ve got really long arms) 2. Works fine at resisting heat and flames while you turn, baste and otherwise fiddle around with chunks of food on a grill 3. Aesthetically pleasing and has a ring for hanging when not in use. 4. Affordable 5. People volunteer for cooking duty if they can get a turn with the cool barbecue mitt glove. Holding onto a wide-handled spatula was doable, although not super easy. But holding onto and trying to manipulate BBQ tongs was pretty much impossible. After much frustration, I finally took the mitt off and used the tongs barehanded. I’ll probably use this mitt on occasion, but it won’t be anywhere near the number of times I had expected to use it. Kind of disappointed with this one, Weber.

Eyelash Conditioner: Eyelash Support

I was skeptical, but a bit desperate. Now in my 50’s, I have been noticing a steady decline in the number, the thickness and the length of my eye lashes, both upper and lower. And I did not like it! I did not know such a thing existed until I saw it on an end cap at the grocery store. Pricey….hmmmm….but if it works….would be so worth it. I apply eyelash conditioner the morning with my AM makeup routine making sure it is dry before I apply any another product on or near my lashes (eyeshadow, mascara, cover-up, etc.) I opted for the morning time, because a night task like that just did not work for me, even though the instructions say to do it at night. It seems it took the eyelash conditioner 4 weeks before I started to see changes I could believe were happening. My lashes are now much longer and thicker and hold the curl much better. Its like Rogaine for the eyes! I guess it is to be a life-long task for me, but the longer lashes sure do add a lot of life to the aging eye! Maybe the price will go down one day! Oh, I have not noticed any darkening on the skin near the lashes. Occasionally I get some mild burning while it dries. I "think" I felt some weird eye aching in the first week, but that has gone away. I was not sure it was from the "medicine", but chose to live with it!

Over the years I have used lots of hair care/styling stuff over the years, from just letting it air dry to super hold gels. I had heard about American Crew Pomade from back in the day and thought it would be worth trying. I had been using Brylcream for a while but the little dab just didn’t give me as much control as I would of liked. This does a better job of providing hold with flexibility. It has a pleasant smell and rubs into you hands and then rubs right into my hair. If you don’t use too much it doesn’t give you the super slick wet look but it gives you a little shine and nice classy hold. Price wise I know it seems a little high, but you do get the two jars which should last for quite a while, of course depending on how much you use. And you don’t have the hard hat stiffness of gel, or the looseness of a cream. I have now become a very big fan of the American Crew Pomade and will continue to use it as long as I can get it here.

Weber Grill Pan: Only The Best For Grilling

Other have done an excellent job reviewing this Weber Grill Pan and after using this pan for a week, I concur that- 1. This Weber grilling pan easily gets dirty but cleans up reasonably well with an SOS pad. Be sure to have a box on-hand, you will need them! 2. Get accustomed to the pan having a dark used look. Once used it will never be shiny. 3. I have used the pan on very, very high heat and it did not warp. Allow it to air cool after use. I would guess immersion in water if hot could warp the pan. 4. The Weber Grill Pan is much more expensive than other models. I saw a Ducane model at half the price but it had no reviews. I bought the Weber pan based on the name and good reviews. 5. I did not go with a non-stick model out of concerns for the non-stick surface chipping and getting into food. For me, it is hard to believe that a non-stick surface could survive bbq’ing for long. The size of the slits in this pan do block a lot of heat, so cooking meat and fish takes a little longer than if directly on the grill. Fish fillets turned out beautiful and stayed intact. I used PAM for BBQ’s and the sticking was not an issue.

Electric Insect Killer: No More Bugs

Since my central air conditioner broke, we had to install window units and this led to bugs coming in the house. Especially at night time. After days of being too scared to sleep during the night, I decided that I had to do something. I had tried turning an outside light on so the bugs would be attracted to that instead of the light in my room. That gave me the idea to find an electric bug killer. So I did my research and found that electric insect killer was a good price and it had high reviews so I ordered it and was so excited when it came in the mail. I’ve been completely satisfied with it. The electric insect killer attracts bugs and mosquitoes so well. I’ve noticed that the bugs aren’t swarming around the street light anymore since they’re more attracted to the light from the Flowtron. I haven’t had one mosquito bite since I installed it and there are no more bugs crawling around my room or in my house at night. Whether it is the light that attracts the mosquitoes, or it’s the unit itself, the point is that it really does kill mosquitoes. The Flowtron even comes with a scented cartridge to insert under the lightbulb, but I haven’t had to use it.

Apparently I was wrong, It fits snugly, so getting it on takes a bit of patience, but the material is strong and seems very durable. This is our fourth grill in the 12 years we have been married, so I want this one to last…this cover seems like it will do a great job protecting our investment!
